This is how we contribute to a slightly better world

Hotel Koldingfjord is located in the middle of Denmark's most beautiful nature. The close vicinity to nature and our daily enjoyment of the surroundings has made us especially aware of our responsibility to take care of the environment and ensure that the climate and nature are affected as little as possible by the fact that we run a large hotel in these amazing settings.
We work on a number of areas to ensure that the next generations also have a healthy, clean and fair world to live in.

UN GLOBAL GOALS:

The work with the United Nations’ 17 World Goals is an important part of everyday life at Hotel Koldingfjord. We review workflows, procedures and purchases so that we can get as close as possible to our goal - to contribute to a better world for future generations. All the employees at the hotel have attended a course about working with the world goals. Together, the staff have adopted a number of actions that support the four world goals on which we have particular focus:

  • Goal 3: Health and well-being
  • Goal 4: Quality education
  • Goal 7: Sustainable energy
  • Goal 12: Responsible consumption and production

The work with the world goals is continuously evaluated and measured, so we make sure that our actions help in creating a better world that’s just a little bit better.

ECOLOGY:

Ecology is good for the environment and animal welfare. That is why organic products are being increasingly included in our menu. Among other things, we offer organic coffee, the house wines are organic, and we bake exclusively with organic flour from Samsø. But we haven’t crossed the finish line quite yet.  In the future, we will replace a number of conventionally grown products with organic products from local producers. We have achieved The Organic Cuisine Label in bronze, and continue to work on integrating more ecology into our cuisine.

UN Global Compact:

Hotel Koldingfjord is one of the very few Danish hotels that has joined the UN Global Compact Network Denmark.
The UN Global Compact's mission is to mobilize a global movement of companies to create a better world. This means that Hotel Koldingfjord has committed to working according to the network's 10 principles, which focus on the environment, labour rights, human rights and anti-corruption.

THE GREEN KEY:

Hotel Koldingfjord is affiliated with The Green Key environmental label, which sets a wide range of standards for the hotel's environmental operation and impact on the surrounding community.

The hotel's energy consumption is monitored month by month to ensure optimal utilisation - and to reduce energy consumption where it does not affect the guests' comfort. Our focus on resources has meant that, over a number of years, we have been able to reduce the hotel's consumption of electricity, water and heat measured per guest. It is good for the environment and for the hotel's finances.

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY ELECTRICITY:

In the coming years, all electricity at Hotel Koldingfjord will be produced by Danish wind turbines. However, green electricity costs a little bit more. On the other hand, Energi Danmark guarantees that the electricity in the outlets at the hotel is green. We think it’s the right thing to do.
